Island where Mamma Mia was filmed
The island where Mamma Mia was filmed is beautiful Skopelos island in Greece. Most of the scenes filmed outdoor were taken on Skopelos island during August-September in 2007. The main beach on Skopelos island where most scenes were filmed is called Kastani. But ever since the movie it has become worldly known as the Mamma Mia beach.
At Kastani beach the producers of the movie had built a jetty and a small beach bar for the filming of the beach scenes. Both of these were later removed once the filming was over. This is why when you visit the beautiful Kastani bay you will not see any of them. The locals preferred to leave the beach in tact to its natural beauty.
So what makes Mamma Mia beach so unique and why is there so much talk about it?
Kastani beach will simply take your breath away with its stunning crystal clear green-blue waters. Most of our guests describe it as a: “a natural pool”. On both sides of the beach you will discover little caves. You can swim and snorkel inside them while being surrounded by the greenest scenery of pine trees that reach the sea level.
